Ranja CV hosted an exciting panel of impressive Kriolus in Tech! Panelists include Cabo Verdeans from Cabo Verde and the United States (California and Washington state). This panel is open to the public! We invited anyone interested in listening in to what was a dynamic discussion. Panelists shared the strategies they’ve used to create their careers in Tech. They also shared how they’ve been able to engage in the Cabo Verdean community to bring more opportunities for future generations of CVs in Tech! Everyone who joined had the opportunity to ask the Panelists questions.

 


Meet our Panelists!

 Milton Cabral | CV Digital

With more than a decade in the Tech industry, Cabral has his fingerprints in several country-level govtech-projects,  for online citizen's services delivery, and public administration digitization. For the past 4 years, he has been playing an active role in the local Startup Innovation Ecosystem, leading a government program called Cabo Verde Digital, that’s aims to activate the local innovation ecosystem for startups, through different projects to create community, create talent, and create a market.


MARCIO LIMA | META

Marcio Lima is an Art Director for Meta, where he uses his talent in augmented reality, motion design and storyboarding to contribute to the organization. Before arriving at Meta, Marcio was a Senior Designer at Snapchat Inc. in Los Angeles, California, U.S. Marcio was born in Cabo Verde and raised in East Providence, Rhode Island, U.S. In addition to his work at Snapchat, Marcio is involved in many projects, collaborating with other talented artists to create innovative and inspiring work for leading brands.

Marcio is engaged in various forms of the digital industry. Marcio earned his Bachelor’s degree in Media Arts & Animation at New England Institute of Art. Marcio is extremely passionate about finding ways to make a true, long-term impact within the Cabo Verdean Diaspora, with an emphasis in supporting the Cabo Verdean community in Cabo Verde.


LEX BARBOSA | MICROSOFT

Cape Verdean-American, Lex was raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and currently lives in Seattle, Washington. Prior to getting into tech, Lex was an Activity Therapist, providing group therapy to adolescents and adults in inpatient psychiatric hospitals in New England. Lex was also featured in a 2021 Ranja CV Profile for her work in Tech and in the CV Community. Read more about Lex here.


Meet Our Moderator!

JOEL ALMEIDA | MODERATOR

With a background in digital arts, Joel Almeida studied in Portugal, OPorto city, having returned to Cape Verde where he worked as a creative director, project manager, and game designer at the first video game studio in Cape Verde and later as a graphic designer for the government of Cape Verde's communication office.

In 2017, he co-founded his design studio KBLAST, where he is also developing an edutainment project called Nubrinka whose objective is to create an education platform with children's educational content for African children or of African descent.

At the same time, he contributes to the Cape Verdean innovation ecosystem, co-founding an organization that supports entrepreneurship and innovation in Cape Verde called Buldanho (www.buldanho.org ), mapping the Cape Verdean ecosystem, designing activities that boost the ecosystem, as well as promoting networking events and international events such as TEDx Praia, being the license holder and organizer of the 2019 edition.
